Marin County Pesticide Spray Program

Pesticide Free Zones to Stay!

We have fantastic news and an action item!

Thanks to our calls, letters and in person meetings, our County Supervisors continue to fund and support the County’s integrated pest management program (IPM Program) to not only allow it to continue but also to strengthen the program during the next fiscal year.

Maintaining our County property without pesticides is labor intensive, as reflected in the increased hours devoted to mechanical and non-chemical methods by volunteers, contractors and County staff. The great news is that our program not only helps improve the health of our kids, and keep our air and water clean, it also helps to provide green jobs in our County.

Please write or call your Supervisor TODAY to thank him or her for funding the County IPM Program!! Your thank you calls and notes are important!!

As you may recall, Moms Advocating Sustainability (MOMAS) worked closely with Marin County to help develop and adopt some of the strongest pesticide laws in the country. There are so many great aspects of our County’s award winning program that it is now a model for other cities and counties. As parents, it is wonderful to know that our County playgrounds, picnic areas and turf/grass are maintained as “pesticide free zones” and our bike and multi-use paths are “organically maintained.”

We have more work to do – but for now, let’s celebrate our accomplishments, thank our hard working County staff and Supervisors, and continue to enjoy the outdoors.

We can also follow the County’s example and refuse to use pesticides or herbicides in or around our own homes. YardSmartMarin and Beyond Pesticides are great resources if you are wondering how to manage pests and weeds without pesticides.
